Crawl, Walk, Run

Modernizing a century-old training technique

In combat, we don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.
Take the brief into the field and use the dirt instead of the projector. Training on these tools consists of three phases:

Crawl Phase:

With our scale models in-hand, warfighters will inspect the details of each vehicle up-close. This hands-on learning phase will help highlight key recognition features dictated on the accompanied threat recognition cards.

Walk Phase:

Warfighters will build upon their Crawl phase knowledge by setting the scale vehicles outdoors in terrain. Instructors will have their trainees sight in on each vehicle, identify key features, and practice conducting radio reports of their findings such as type of vehicle, orientation, and grid location.

Run Phase:

Trainees will put their knowledge and skills to the test. In full kit with their assigned equipment, they will navigate simulated real-world scenarios, establish a concealed vantage point, and observe the vehicles. Drawing from their Walk phase experience, they will conduct reports and stand by to observe fires.

Testimonials

“Training is the key.  Hard, rigorous, realistic, repetitive training.  That is the ultimate form of taking care of an American Soldier.  And the only way to do that is through repetition in combat-like conditions.”

— General Milley Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

“How do you prepare your men for the shock of battle?  For one thing, you need to make sure that your training is so hard and varied that it removes complacency and creates muscle memory – instinctive reflexes – within a mind disciplined to identify and react to the unexpected.”

— Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis
